#167 – Tony Hawk

The Life of Dad Show - Episode 167 - Tony Hawk

Tommy Riles and Art Eddy are joined by Tommy‘s four-month-old daughter, Katie to talk about water on Mars, football, pumpkin picking and the blood moon. They then bring on the one-and-only Tony Hawk.

Legend has it that at 9 years old, Tony Hawk was given a blue fiberglass skateboard from his older brother. From that point on Tony started down a path that would turn his life upside down. Even at the early age of 12 he was winning amateur contests throughout California. Two years later he turned pro. Two years after that he was widely considered as the best competitive skateboarder in the world.

As he got older and more popular he started to travel the world and hosted skating demos and contests. Even when there was a dip in popularity in skateboarding Tony kept on doing what he loved. In 1999, Tony teamed up with Activision to create the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater video game franchise. The Tony Hawk video game series became one of the most popular game franchises in history and continues to this day.

At the X Games, Tony became the first skateboarder to ever land a 900, a maneuver he had been trying to accomplish for 10 years. His Boom Boom HuckJam Tour featured some of the top skateboarders, BMXers and freestyle motocross riders in a giant tour that played in large arenas and theme parks across the country.

Tony has won numerous awards as well. Some of them are Make-A-Wish’s Favorite Male Athlete, Teen Choice Awards’ Choice Male Athlete and Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards’ Favorite Male Athlete. Tony also has given back to his community. His Tony Hawk Foundation has funded over $5 million to over 550 skatepark projects throughout the United States and now the World.

This Tuesday, September 29th, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 offers a fresh take on combo-driven skateboarding, the most advanced online multiplayer experience, and a state-of-the-art skatepark builder.
